BUILDING projects from all over Carmarthenshire have been honoured in an industry awards ceremony.

Eleven schemes ranging from an oak timber framed conservatory in a private home to Carmarthen's multi-million pound Si Catherine's Walk development were recognised at Carmarthenshire's 2010 Local Authority Building Control Excellence Awards ceremony.

The award for best public community buildings went to Welsh Heritage Construction For their conversion of a barn to at Dinefwr Home Farm, Llandeilo.

The award was sponsored by Machynys Peninsula Golf Club. The cow shed is a grade two listed building conversion which demonstrated an excellent example of partnership working in an effort to give a challenging building a new lease of life.

The National Trust as the landlord, Carmarthenshire Council as the tenant, CCW, Cadw, the flinders — Heritage Lottery Fund and the Rural Development Plan — all had to work together with the skilled team of building professionals engaged.

The outcome is a good example of appropriate conversion of traditional farm buildings to a modern use demonstrating the skills of craftsmen in both is original construction and conversion.
